Israel has killed one Palestinian fighter in its second round of air strikes in as many days on the Gaza Strip.
According to the Israeli military, Wednesday’s attacks were in response to a rocket fire, which wounded three people.
According to the Israeli police spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld, two of the three injured by the rocket fire into Israel were in a serious condition.
Israeli public radio identified them as immigrant farm workers from Thailand.
An Israeli military statement said: “Israeli Air Forice aircraft targeted a rocket launching site in the northern Gaza Strip. In addition, tank shells were fired towards terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip. Hits were confirmed.”
Two loud explosions also shook Gaza City shortly after the attack that killed the Hamas gunman, no casualties had been reported.
Al Jazeera’s Nicole Johnston, reporting from Gaza, said: “Four Palestinians killed in a day is spike in numbers, with the killings and also the rockets there is an increase in tension, things currently are really tense in Gaza as border crossings are also closed.”
On Tuesday a separate raid by Israel killed three Palestinians.
A statement from Hamas, which controls Gaza, said those killed were members of its military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades.
